11. Visual Journal: Mostly Monochrome
...and what to call the projects that don't rise to the level of project?
My Mostly Monochrome series are the urban abstracts where one color dominates the frame. The image does not need to be solely that color but just enough to feel like its ‘mostly’ one color.
I started to notice these while going through old images in Lightroom then began to notice more while out on walks. I enjoy them because at first they just appear as a block of color but on further looking the details begin to emerge—and the more you look the more details begin to reveal themselves.
In some ways, these can be very easy to create. Find any colored area and zoom in, get close, or crop down. But not only is that no fun, but when you do that the images just look and feel different.
While these are fun I think they could use some more consistency and if my bar for a project is “they are more than just a group of photos around a single theme,” these do not reach that level.
Writing about these also makes me think about what to call all the projects I have that are not projects. Collections? Series? Visual Journey?
What do call your groupings of pictures? I’d love to hear.
Warmly,
Josh
Thanks for reading Random Capture! If it gives you a few moments of enjoyment, please comment, like, subscribe, or share. The endorphins I get when I see any of that happen keeps me writing and photographing.
the yellow fence does it for me! Great shots Josh.
I always considered a group of photo's (with similar theme or subject) to be a project but you got me thinking about this. I think I only do 2 actual 'projects' (Imagine Limburg and the BeyondFocus project), but all others are just (small) collections. Or like I call it on my website: "(...) collections of photos that I think have something in common with each other, or maybe tell a (short) story …".
