57. This walk reminded me why I love leading walks and teaching photography
Today I led a photo walk in San Francisco as part of Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. A dozen photographers joined—ten of whom I’d never met before. We explored Pier 70, wandered into the lobby of the old Union Iron Works plant (thanks to a friendly Y Combinator employee who waved us in), passed through Crane Cove Park, the Chase Center, and Mission Bay.
The real highlight wasn’t the locations—it was the people. Spending a few hours with passionate photographers, each seeing the same streets through different eyes, reminded me why I love leading these walks. Several walkers admitted they’d been skeptical about finding much to photograph in this part of town. By the end, they were buzzing about how much there really was to see once they slowed down and looked.
It was an energizing day, and it makes me want to carve out even more time to lead future walks (sorry, SBW). Below are a few of my shots from the day. I hope the others will share theirs too—I’d love to feature some in a future post.
I’ve also started a new Facebook group where anyone who’s joined my walks, taken lessons, or follows this newsletter can share their work and ideas in a more interactive space. If you’re reading this, you’re invited—come join the conversation.\

Great stuff--love the group shot. Sadly, there was a big Fair and Race in our locale today, so we didn't get a stellar turnout. But it was fun anyway!
These are great! Where can we find out more about your classes?
